A few weeks ago, we met up with fellow Grovers, Melissa and Tyler (and their adorable dog Mina), for our first hike. Tyler is in the Marines, and they've been living on the island for a couple of years. Through Facebook, we reconnected and since being here, we've hung out with them a few times. They're a beautiful couple, and we're looking forward to getting to know them better this year.
The weather on the windward side of the island had been overcast for a few days, so we almost postponed the hike. But the sky cleared just an hour or so before we planned to go. From the trail, we could see the beautiful view of Kailua, Lanikai, and beyond. The hike is referred to as the pillbox hike because of the old World War II lookout spots. Apparently, it's a great hike to do at sunrise, too. Maybe next time...
